Maria Menounos
In the course of caring for her mother, who has stage 4 brain cancer Maria learned that she was facing an illness of her own. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. She has told PEOPLE that she was experiencing headaches and lightheadedness from February 2014. "My speech became slow and I was experiencing trouble using the teleprompter". Menounos was diagnosed with a massive meningioma brain tumor. An MRI confirmed this. Menounos made an appointment with her mother's doctor, famous Neurosurgeon Dr. Keith L. Black The surgery was scheduled for June 8-her 39th birthday. "He advised me, 'I'm 99 percent certain it's normal, however, we'll only know that when we're in the hospital,'" she says. In the arduous surgery which lasted about seven hours Dr. Black was able to take out 99.9 per cent of the cancer. This was considered to be benign. According to Dr. Black, there is an opportunity of 6-7 percent of the tumor recurring. These odds are my best choice. Menounos is admitted to the hospital for six days, is now at home at home and has been spending moment recuperating.
